RICH GIRLS
MISTY BOYCE

Rich Girls are a rock-n-roll band based in New York City.

Born and raised in Las Cruces, New Mexico, Misty Boyce began studying piano at age 5. Even in the desert, there is a surprising amount of refreshing musicians and teachers, toward whom Misty eagerly gravitated. Classically trained under the eagle-eye of Julliard grad, Leila York, Misty developed the skills that allowed her to delve into jazz rather quickly at age 14, all the while studying the music that she loved (Tori Amos, Fiona Apple, Radiohead) and composing constantly.

Misty entered college in the year 2002 at the University of Cincinnati's College-Conservatory of Music, where she majored in Jazz Studies/Piano Performance. Here, Misty put her writing/singing on the shelf as she was consumed with learning the art of jazz, and discovering a world of competition she had not known in New Mexico. She became quite accomplished as a jazz pianist, earning the Three-Arts Scholarship for junior and senior female musicians two years in a row, and auditioning into the internationally competitive "Sisters in Jazz" quintet through IAJE. This year-long honor gave Misty the opportunity to work under jazz greats such as Gerri Allen and Allison Miller, as well as perform at Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City, and at the Women in Jazz Festival at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C.

After graduating in June 2006, Misty moved to New York City, where she continues to play jazz, but is now focusing on her first loves, writing and performing, and is working hard to make her mark as a truly original artist.

what is cross-pollination

Cross-Pollination is a long-running weekly concert series with at its core the concept of genuine creative collaboration and community building through music. Created by Jay Goettelmann and Wesley Verhoeve in May of 2004 as a means to forge a bond between musicians based on their love of music, their craft and their dreams it continues to push the envelope over 200 shows later. The New York Times called it "an impressive feat of indie gumption" and featured it on the cover of their entertainment section in December of 2007.

The Set-Up: Two of the best acts from NYC and beyond each play a 45 minute set, followed by a pre-rehearsed 3 song collaborative set during which both acts share the stage. Collaborations run from mutual covers, to songs written together especially for the occasion, limited run EPs of the event, and more. Audience and artists alike enthusiastically participate in these unique listening experiences stepping out of their comfort zone, and into new and exciting territory.

Artists are paired based on their compatibility as well as musical diversity of their styles. The pairings that sound the strangest on paper often work out to be the most magical. Cross-Pollinating artists also means cross-pollinating audiences. Artists can leave the room with a whole new set of fans, and an audience with new music to be excited about.

Cross-Pollination has become an NYC staple and has been written up by The New York Times, Time Out New York, BrooklynVegan, CMJ, Gothamist, Stereogum, and many more.

Past performers including My Brightest Diamond, Cloud Cult, Kimya Dawson, Frightened Rabbit, Kevin Devine, Jeffrey Lewis, The Undisputed Heavyweights, Jaymay, Melody Gardot, Nicole Atkins, and many more. For a full chronological list of performers go here.

As of July 2008 Liberated Matter and independent digital retailer Amie Street have teamed up to bring a new dimension to Cross-Pollination with a dedicated mixtape series, artist features and more.
